The Bright Side: Alabama enters the eleventh week of the season as pretty much the consensus No. 1 team in the nation, with a top ranking in the AP Poll, the Coaches Poll, and the only one that matters, the BCS Poll. So they can, potentially, control their own destiny from here on out. Lose and they miss out on a chance at going to the BCS title game. Win out, and they will have a shot. On the plus side for Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide is that they pretty much had a bye week in Week ten when they shut out Arkansas State. Who made that scheduling move? While playing an easy team is a good way to get a win when they need it most, Alabama might be a paper tiger waiting for a clenching fist. Which brings us to their upcoming schedule.

Potential Disappointment: In order to win out the rest of the way, Alabama will have to win on the road against LSU, and then at home versus Mississippi State and Auburn. Given the way the top teams have faltered this season, it seems to follow that their next game against Louisiana State will be the toughest task ahead of the Tide. At 6-2 LSU is ranked No. 15 in the nation. And don’t forget that the defending national champs are coming off a cake walk game of their own after beating Tulane last week. With three regular season games left to play, Penn State is looking at Iowa on the road, Indiana at home and Michigan State at home. Iowa and Indiana are a combined 8-10 right now, leaving the Michigan State game as Penn State’s sole test. But because it might be Joe-Pa’s last regular season home game, the advantage is clearly with the Nittany Lions. Current odds are 5/2 to win it all. You should have gotten in on Penn State when they were 50/1 to open up the season.

Potential Disappointment: Michigan State could be their undoing, especially if by the time the game is played the Spartans are convinced they could get to one of the big bowls with a win. Plus the Nittany Lions beat Ohio State 13-6 last game. Under two touchdowns on offense does not a lot of confidence make.

3. Texas Tech

The Bright Side: They’re the hottest team in the nation after their thrilling, last-second win over in-state, in-conference rival and then-No. 1 Texas Longhorns on the big stage last Saturday night. In addition to having the No. 2 offense in the nation, they can also play defense when they need to. Can the Red raiders ride their wave of hype all the way to the BCS title game? Potential Disappointment: Despite their win over Texas, the Red Raiders are still currently fielding 10/1 odds in Vegas that they’ll win it all. They face Oklahoma State at home, Oklahoma on the road and then Baylor at home to wrap things up. The two OK teams are indeed okay. Their combined record is 16-2.

The crisp fall air and warm apple desserts just seem to go hand-in-hand. If you are diabetic and looking for ways to enjoy Fall’s apple bounty, here are some recipes to try.

BAKED APPLES WITH CARAMEL SAUCE

4 large baking apples

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/8 tsp nutmeg

1/2 cup uncooked oats

1/4 cup raisins

2 tbsp butter, softened

1/2 cup sugar-free caramel topping (Smucker’s has a good one.)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray an 8-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Wash apples thoroughly and core. Cut a small slice off the bottom is necessary to make apple sit upright. In a small mixing bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, oats, raisins and butter; combine well. Stufff mixture into apples. Cover pan with aluminum foil and bake for 45-50 minutes until apples are tender. Remove from oven and drizzle caramel topping over apples. Serve warm.

BAKED APPLE PUDDING

3 medium-size cooking apples, peeled and sliced

Non-stick cooking spray for baking pan

1 cup flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/3 cup salt-free butter

1/3 cup Splenda

1/2 tsp grated lemon peel

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 egg

1/2 cup low-fat milk

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray an 8-inch square baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Arrange apple slices in bottom of the pan. Set aside.

In a small mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir mixture to blend well. Set aside.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine butter, Splenda, peel and vanilla. Using an electric mixer, beat at medium speed until well blended. Add egg and beat until fluffy. Add flour mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with flour. Spoon batter over apples and bake 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve while hot.

2 cups self-rising flour

1/2 cup shortening

3/4 cup low-fat milk

5 cups chopped apples

1 cup Equal Sugar-Lite

1 tsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cut flour into shortening as if making a pie crust. Add milk. Make into a dough and roll out into a rectangle. Add Equal and cinnamon to apples and mix together. Spread apple mixture over dough. Roll up jelly-roll style and cut into slices. Place into a baking pan and pour syrup over all. Bake 1 hour.

To make sauce: Bring to boiling:

2/3 cup butter, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 1/4 cups Splenda and 1 1/2 cups boiling water

NOTE: The sauce in this recipe uses 1/2 cup sugar. You can substitute 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce or go with the sugar if you don’t like the applesauce results. But be aware of this when fitting this recipe into your diet!

I’ve always kinda liked Helen Thomas. For one thing, she was a constant burr under the saddle of conservative pundits because of the way she held President Bush’s feet to the fire. The right wingers mocked her for being old and unattractive, but that’s nothing new since it’s well known that conservatives have no use whatsoever for women who don’t look like supermodels or Fox News anchorettes.

But Helen kinda stepped into it the other day when she said the Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and go back to Germany, Poland, America, wherever. When you boil it down to its basic elements, it’s the same thing as saying Blacks should get the hell out of America and go back to Africa. Well, not QUITE the same since WE brought most of the Africans over here in the first place in something less that first class accommodations during the slave trade, and the Jews in Israel felt they were reclaiming their homeland by displacing the Arabic people who were living there at the time. It seems to me a more apt comparison for Helen’s fatal faux pas would be to tell all Caucasians to “get the hell out of America” and go back to Germany, Italy, England, France and wherever the hell else we came from so we could return the land to the folks who were here first.

But I digress.

Helen, the ever present front-and-center crone at the head of the Press Corps who hasn’t asked a question relevant to the actual press conference in years has decided… quite suddenly, it seems… to retire.

Longtime White House reporter Helen Thomas has retired effective immediately, Hearst Corporation said Monday.

The media conglomerate had employed Thomas, age 89, as a syndicated columnist for its newspaper chain.

Ari Fleischer, the bald-headed talking kielbasa who lied for the Bush administration for as long as his immortal soul could stand it, was one of the first to criticize Helen.

…which raises the question, “Why does CNN (and Morning Joe on MSNBC) give this proven, pathological liar a platform to tell lies on TV where everyone can hear them?”

But I digress.

What Helen said was ignorant, bigoted, and a clear indicator that her best years are behind her. You would think that someone as sharp as she used to be would know the implications of what she says. But the old girl is 89.

The First Dragon

Have you ever been curious about the first Dragon in history? Where it was from, did it have a name? I know I was. I also realized that I would have to settle on the first Dragon in recorded history. Since time travel still eludes me. That is when I decided to do a little surfing, well, a lot of surfing and a lot of reading, as it turned out. Yes, I even hit the hard copy.

At first I was instantly gratified, as I’m sure many have been before me. A lot of web sites that I went to all told me the same… my quest was over…it was Anzu of Babylon, a.k.a Zu, c.1st Millennium B.C. From “Ninurta vs. Anzu” or “The Myth of Anzu”. I read the descriptions, and with the exception of a few minor variations, it was this: Body and head of a lion, wings of an eagle (I didn’t realize they had eagles in Babylon), razor sharp talons, the beak of a bird with teeth, and an armor-plated breast. It to me was a bit of a let down. I don’t know about you, but to me Anzu sounds more like a griffin than a dragon. As I’m sure you will agree from the Babylonian depiction to the right. I also noticed a lot of copy and paste activity between a lot of the sites. So I decided to take a closer look, and actually read the original story as translated from the Babylonian clay tablets. At no time is Anzu referred to as a dragon. In other Babylonian text it is actual referred to as the Anzu Bird. In Sumerian text of the 3rd Millennium BC, Anzu was known as, the Zu-bird, a mythological creature which at times wrought mischief. From – Gilgamesh, Enkidu and the nether world – (Sumerian) : “In its branches, the Anzu bird settled its young.” So, as far as the Babylonians and I are concerned, not only is Anzu not the first dragon, but not a dragon at all, and deserves no further mention. I did feel I was on the right trail though,

so I pushed on into deeper study of Babylonian text.

My Reading and the views in other web sites brought me to an older “Dragon” in Babylonian and Assyrian text, Tiamat, creator of the gods and earth. c.2nd Millennium B.C. From the “Enuma Elish” or “The Seven Tablets of Creation”. The fact that Tiamat was a dragon is not clear. In fact she has about as many detractors as she does supporters. She is often described as a Serpent type Water Dragon. Except for that fact that she was said to have given birth to dragons, along with a host of other creatures;

“She set up vipers and dragons, and the monster Lahamu,

And hurricanes, and raging hounds, and scorpion-men,

And mighty tempests, and fish-men, and rams;

They bore cruel weapons, without fear of the fight.

Her commands were mighty, none could resist them;

After this fashion, huge of stature, she made eleven [kinds of] monsters.”

the descriptive evidence in the tale leaves one wondering to the fact of her being a dragon. She is in fact called a woman in the text, and mention is made of her lips. The following are all the pieces of description contained in the text of the Enuma Elish for Tiamat:

First: (Tablet 1)

unto Tiamut, the glistening one

Next: (Tablet 2)

Tiamat, who is a woman, is armed and attacketh thee.

… rejoice and be glad;

The neck of Tiamat shalt thou swiftly trample under foot.

… rejoice and be glad;

Next: (Tablet 4)

But Tiamat… , she turned not her neck,

With lips that failed not she uttered rebellious words:

Next: (Tablet 4)

Tiamat opened her mouth to its full extent,

Next: (Tablet 4)

He seized the spear and burst her belly,

Next: (Tablet 4)

And the lord stood upon Tiamat’s hinder parts

Tiamat a dragon? I leave that to you. I myself do not find enough evidence in the old text to support the fact, but likewise I do not find enough to dismiss her. But, as for being the first dragon, that I can dismiss. (For those of you who enjoy Creation Myths though, her story is the first Creation Myth in recorded history!)

I was scratching my head. Here I was deep in the world that the Greeks called Mesopotamia, home of the Babylonians and Assyrian, the birth place of civilization, and writing, but where was my dragon! That’s when I smacked myself in the head. The region may have been the birth place of writing, but it wasn’t the Babylonians or the Assyrian that were the parents, they were but meir students…of the Sumerians! Mesopotamia, was originally Sumeria for over two thousand years! So I head for Sumeria!

And that’s where I found it! The First Dragon written of, and the first dragon slayer story, and in the first written language Cuneiform!

KUR

Sumeria 3rd Millennium B.C.

“Since the dragon-slaying theme was an important motif in the Sumerian mythology of the third millennium B. C., it is not unreasonable to assume that many a thread in the texture of the Greek and early Christian dragon tales winds back to Sumerian sources.”

“Samuel Noah Kramer spent most of his life studying this literature, by piecing together clay tablets in far-flung museums.”

We find mention of Kur in three myths from the 4th – 3rd Millennium B.C., (more than a millennium before Tiamat!), In the introductory prologue to the epic tale “Gilgamesh, Enkidu, and the Nether World,”( written on eight tablets – seven excavated in Nippur and one in Ur), Where Enki, the water-god, fights Kur after he learns that The goddess Ereshkigal was carried off violently into the nether world, by Kur. Enki fought Kur from a boat, and Kur fought back savagely with stones of all sizes, and attacked Enki’s boat with the primeval waters which it controlled. Unfortunately for us, the author of this tale is so anxious to proceed with the Gilgamesh tale that he doesn’t finish the dragon part, and leaves us hanging. It is certain that Enki wins though because he is in the rest of the poem, Kur is not.

See anything familiar; Damsel in distress, knight comes to the rescue and slays the dragon.

The second version of the slaying-of-the-dragon myth can be found in “The Feats and Exploits of Ninurta.” (49 tablets) A significant version, due to the fact that it is evident that it was utilized by the Semitic redactors in the creation of the Babylonian Creation Myth featuring Tiamat.

In this version, Ninurta, the warrior-god, is the hero of the story. His personified weapon, Sharur, kisses up to him in a drawn out speech extolling the heroic qualities and deeds of Ninurta to convince him to go after Kur, and attach and destroy him. What Sharur has against Kur is not written in the text that is available. Ninurta leaves to do as asked, but finds himself lacking and “flees like a bird”. Sharur though, won’t let it go and speaks, reassuring and encouraging Ninurta with his words. “Ninurta now attacks Kur fiercely with all the weapons at his command, and Kur is completely destroyed.”

Things fall apart after that. The primeval waters of the nether world which Kur had been in control of rise to the surface so violently that no fresh water can reach the fields and gardens. The gods of the land in charge of irrigation and cultivation, are desperate. The Tigris does not flood as usual, and the river water is unfit for use.

“Famine was severe, nothing was produced,

The small rivers were not cleaned, the dirt was not carried off,

On the steadfast fields no water was sprinkled, there was no digging of ditches,

In all the lands there were no crops, only weeds grew.

Thereupon the lord sets his lofty mind,

Ninurta, the son of Enlil, brings great things into being.”

Ninurta then piled up stones over the dead body of Kur, and kept piling them until he had a great wall in front of the land. The wall blocked and held back the raging primeval waters (mighty waters) stopping the waters of the lower regions (nether world) from rising to the surface of the earth. Ninurta gathered up the waters that had already flooded the land and lead them into the Tigris. Which can now over flow and water the fields.

“What had been scattered, he gathered,

What by Kur had been dissipated,He guided and hurled into the Tigris,

The high waters it pours over the farmland.”

The third version of the slaying-of-the-dragon myth can be found in “Inanna and Ebih.” A one hundred and ninety line poem. (12 tablets)

The dragon-slayer in this version of the story is a goddess, Inanna, curiously known as both the goddess of love and also as the goddess of battle and strife, (She must have been married), and is also referred to in many Sumerian hymns as “The Destroyer of Kur.” Kur, is also referred to as The ‘mountain,’ in the Poem. Did I mention that Kur was also the first fire breathing dragon?

It, the poem, begins with a long passage that extolls the virtues of Inanna. It is followed by a long speech by Inanna to An (the leading deity of the Sumerian pantheon.) (by the third millennium. B. C. though, Enlil, the air-god, had already taken Ans place. Placing this in the forth millennium B.C.) The meaning of her speech is sometimes hard to understand, her attitude is clear though; Either Kur, who appears unaware of, or perhaps is oblivious to, her power, glorifies her virtues, and becomes submissive, she will do violence to the monster. This is part of her threat:

“The long spear I shall hurl upon it,

The throw-stick, the weapon, I shall direct against it,

At its neighboring forests I shall strike up fire,

At its . . . I shall set up the bronze ax,

All its waters like Gibil (the fire-god) the purifier I shall dry up,

Like the mountain Aratta, I shall remove its dread,

Like a city cursed by An, it will not be restored,

Like (a city) on which Enlil frowns, it shall not rise up.”

An responds by giving her a detailed account of all of Kurs mischief that he has wrought against the gods:

“Against the standing place of the gods it has directed its terror,

In the sitting place of the Anunnaki it has led forth fearfulness,

Its dreadful fear it has hurled upon the land,

The ‘mountain,’ its dreadful rays of fire it has directed against all the lands.”

An continues with a description of Kurs power and wealth, and warns Inanna against attacking it. But Inanna doesn’t listen to Ans discouraging speech. Filled with anger and wrath she opens the “house of battle” she leads her weapons and aids and attacks and destroys Kur. She then stations herself upon Kur, and utters a paean of self-glorification.

So there you have it, the first dragon in recorded history, given to us by the sumerians.

“The Sumerians were a non-Semitic, non-Indo-European people who lived in southern Babylonia from 4000-3000 B.C.E. They invented cuneiform writing, and their spiritual beliefs influenced all successive Near Eastern religions, including Judaism, Christianity and Islam.”

In closing let me say that the Sumerians gave us writing, they gave us culture, but most of all they gave us dragons. We should give them a moment of silence.

It’s round two for Auburn and South Carolina, as these two faced off earlier in the season. That meeting resulted in a come-from-behind 35-27 win for the Tigers. Now they meet in the SEC Championship game, the first time since 1994 Auburn has played in the Conference title matchup.

The Tigers come in fresh of that wildly entertaining victory last week vs. Alabama in which they overcame a 24-0 deficit. Falling behind early only to rally for wins has become somewhat of a trademark for Auburn this season, as they’ve done it in eight of their 12 wins.

Sportsbook have this game set with Auburn as a 5.5-point favourite and a Total of 61.5. The Tigers have a record of 7-1 ATS versus conference opponents this season.

While Auburn fans are excitedly booking tickets to Arizona to watch their team in the BCS Championship game on January 10th, the Gamecocks have a real shot at upending all those plans. Coach Spurrier’s team already proved they can hang with the Tigers in that 35-27 loss in late September. It was four South Carolina turnovers that snapped the defeat from the jaws of victory, as they let Auburn off the hook.

The Gamecock defense has been impressive all season, and while controlling Cam Newton and Co. Is a very difficult proposition, if they can get some help from the offense, they could be up for the task. First off, they need the offense to stay on the field for long drives and not the turn the ball over. In fact, if QB Stephen Garcia can put together a performance similar to the first three quarters of the first meeting (235 yards passing, 3TDs and no interceptions) they have a legitimate shot at winning this game.

We specifically say the first three quarters, because things got ugly for Garcia in the fourth quarter. Not only for him but for backup QB Connor Shaw. Why was backup QB Shaw playing? After two fumbles in the fourth, the Old Ball Coach blew his lid and pulled Garcia, sending his backup in. Shaw promptly threw two interceptions in the Auburn red zone, sealing the comeback win for the Tigers.

It’s hard to see another total fourth quarter meltdown. South Carolina showed they can move the ball, now they just need to hang on to it. And they are the team with the better defense in this one.

To us, that adds up to a play on the underdog Gamecocks and who knows, they could win this one straight up, creating BCS chaos.

kita bercermin kita akan melihat bayangan diri kita di dalam cermin
itu. Ketika kita terseyum, maka bayangan itu pun tersemyum, ketika
kita menangis bayangan itupun menangis, ketika kita cemberut dia akan
ikut cemberut. Ketika kita marah ia pun akan marah, ketika kita
melambai pun dia ikut melambai.

Tahukah anda bahwa dalam kehiudupan kita bermasyarakat filosofi cermin
juga berlaku untuk kita? Yang saya maksud disini adalah kita masing –
masing adalah cermin bagi orang lain. Apa yang kita lakukan pada orang
lain pun akan dilakukan orang lain pada kita. Cara kita memperlakukan
orang lain akan di pakai orang lain untuk memperlakukan kita.

Contoh nya, jika kita tersenyum dan ramah pada orang lain maka orang
lain pun akan tersenyum dan ramah pada kita. Jika kita berbuat curang
pada orang lain suatu saat pun orang lain akan berbuat yang sama pada
kita. Ketika kita tidak perduli akan nasib teman kita yang sedang

pun tidak akan peduli pada kita.

Namun, bukan berarti kita harus mencoba menyenangkan orang lain hanya
agar ia memperlakuka kita dengan baik, kita juga harus mempunyai
prinsip yang kuat, Mampu memilih-milih mana yang harus kita lakuakn
atau tidak.

Semoga melalu tulisan ini kita semua mampu menjadi cermin cermin yang
memanjarkan kebaikan buat orang lain.

Blog, kependekan dari WebLog, sebenarnya adalah merupakan diary online yang bisa dibaca oleh pengguna internet lainnya. hal inilah yang membedakan antara diary konvensional yang umumnya bersifat rahasia dan dimiliki oleh pribadi.

Media ini mulai dikenalkan oleh Pyra Labs pada 23 agustus 1999 dengan nama Blogger.com (untuk selanjutnya disingkat blogger). Pyra Lab merupakan sebuah perusahaan yang didirikan oleh Evan Williams and Meg Hourihan.

Pyra Labs menyediakan layanan ini secara gratis kepada penggunanya.sehingga tidak ada dana yang bisa diharapkan untuk masuk melalui layanan tersebut.Ketika perusahaan kehabisan dana, beberapa staf bekerja tanpa gaji dalam beberapa minggu, bahkan beberapa bulan. Dalam kondisi seperti ini akhirnya membuat para pegawai pyra labs mundur bersama-sama dengan salah satu pendirinya, Meg Hourihan. Akhirnya Evan Williams akhirnya menjalankan perusahaan ini sendirian sampai ia mendapatkan dukungan investasi dari Dan Bricklin, pendiri Trellix. Dari sana, kelangsungan hidup blogger mulai didukung oleh program iklan dan layanan blogger Pro yang berbayar. Pada tahun 2002, program akhirnya selesai disusun, setelah versi Beta-nya di kerjakan oleh Paul Bausch dan Mattew Haughey ketika mereka masih di Pyra Labs.
Salah satu perusahaan di Brazil, Gloo, Merupakan perusahaan pertama yang membeli lisensi software tersebut. Pada saat itu, penduduk brazil bisa mengakses layanan blogger dengan bahasa sendiri di blogger.com.br ( saat ini situs tersebut berubah menjadi blogger.globo.com). Ditangan google beberapa fitur yang semula berbayar akhirnya di gratiskan seluruhnya. Bahkan melalui fitur picasa, pengguna blogger.com dapat menampilkan foto-fotonya di dalam media tersebut. Bahkan pada tahun 2006, google mengadakan perubahan cukup besar di dalam blogger, terkait dengan desain blog yang sesuai dengan standar web terbaru, arsip individual untuk masing-masing artikel, komentar dan penulisan melalui email.

Setelah semuanya selesai, blogger.com kemudian dipindahkan dan dijalankan sepenuhnya dalam server google pada tahun 2007. bahkan saat itu, blogger di kembangkan dengan manambahkan beberapa fitur baru seperti label, tampilan pengaturan tata letak dengan fitur drag-and-drop, izin pembaca blog dan lain-lain.
