Kutcher and Portman definitely have it going on…Reitman directs the chemistry very well. About a half dozen good laughs and many smiles and snickers…it does not drag. All in all, a terrific date movie…
It works for many reasons: 1) Cast quality (aside from the two leads) is deep; Kevin Kline is very funny in his turn, and Greta Gerwig and Mindy Kaling ( from The Office) do not disappoint–Lake Bell (a newcomer to me) steals every scene she’s in; 2) Reitman squeezes everything out of each scene…he pays attention to detail and goes for the laughs and the irony; 3) Other than some unnecessary vulgarities, the script is very intelligently written and the characters speak as real people might; 4) Finally, Portman and Kutcher are just terrific.

Woulda been a different movie had the following happened: 1. Winonna Ryder…isn’t in the movie 2. Kevin James ..had more comedy rather than ‘engineering’ skills 3. Winonna and Kevin were 2 different actors that were the married couple in this flick AND, 4. they stuck.
